SINGAPORE: Regional broadcaster Channel NewsAsia has won a total of three prizes at two international awards events. One of them went to a teaser produced for a series called “Bring Back the Girls”, which snagged a Silver at the Clio Key Art Awards last week.

The 44th annual Clio Key Art Awards was held this year in Los Angeles’ Dolby Theatre to honour the year’s top achievements in entertainment advertising and communications.

The teaser for “Bring Back the Girls” – promoting the landmark series that explores the plight of women in Asia and their fight against prejudice, injustice and violence – won Silver in the Television/Streaming: Audio/Visual medium and Teaser category.

It used simple but powerful visuals that were brought to life with special effects to portray the ordeal of abuse from a victim’s point of view, and drive home the theme of the programme’s advocacy for women’s rights.

SUMATRA’S LAST TIGERS CLINCHES TWO AWARDS

At the 8th International Kuala Lumpur Eco Film Festival earlier this month, a documentary on Sumatran killer tigers clinched two awards – Best Short Documentary or TV Documentary and the WWF-Malaysia Wildlife Award.

Titled Sumatra’s Last Tigers, it tells the story of a tiger conservation programme in Sumatra. While tiger populations around the world are depleting due to poaching and deforestation, tiger numbers in a remote nature reserve in Sumatra are increasing.

The documentary trails the man behind this project, Indonesian tycoon Tomy Winata, and the contributions of his project. It was selected from about 170 submissions from 47 countries.
